“GenPet”, Anyone? Has Science Gone Too Far?

Thanks, “T” for the clip!  We officially have amongst our midst,  genetically modified animals!  Here’s the brief description as outlined by the uploader in youtube…

Genpets are not toys or robots. They are living, breathing genetic animals. They use a process called “Zygote Micro Injection” which is quickly becoming a favorable method to combine DNA, or to insert certain proteins from different species.  Most notably, it was used in 1997 to splice mice with bio luminescent jellyfish and has since been used to create glowing rabbits, pigs, fish, and monkeys.   Since then (that time), human DNA has been injected into rabbits, chimpanzees, spider DNA into sheep, and now, Genpets have arrived!

Check out this LINK for starters.  When you pop over to their website you’ll see that it boasts;

“The Only Bioengineered Buddy.  Available in 7 different personality types.”

What in the fo-cheesy?!!!  Some years back, I ran across some research that indicated that a human-hybrid thing (or whatever) was underway but that was too far out there for me back then… but NOW…

It’s one thing for science to “push the envelope”, but do we, as consumers, need to experiment with everything they create?  Why aren’t we satisfied with cats, dogs, goldfish or hamsters as “companions” anymore?  Do we really want a bioengineered living thing around us because cats and dogs are now boring?  Seriously?!  Whatsamattayou?  This is old news apparently, as the company has been around since 2004.  I don’t know man… something about THIS shit doesn’t feel right– AT ALL!!!

  1. Uh… you are too naive. Way too naive. This is a hoax. Check out the website, you can’t order any of these. They are plastic and mechanical devices., the urban legend website has the writeup.

    They are considered an artwork, the intention of which is to make people think about genetic engineering and how far to go. The artist has a website. OH, it’s Canadian.

    Look at it. I personally find most genetic engineering both enviornmentally and morally dangerous. But it ain’t gone that far yet.

    • While a heads up is always nice– I’m not diggin’ the tone too much (what’s up with that?). This was not naive as my contribution to the article was indeed the link regarding human-hybrids being engineered in secret. “T” is usually on top of anything he sends me and there’s absolutely a first time for everything so as the Administrator of the site– I’ll gladly bear the responsibility of not double checking. To “T”: You rock, my man. Don’t sweat it! 😉

      To the readers of this thread;

      I won’t remove the article because the link for the secret engineering is certainly worth the read– that is to say unless you were already aware of this activity. 🙂
